Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms spoke to reporters this morning, confirming the news that she will not run for re-election, saying “it’s time to pass the baton.” Bottoms explained that she wrote two letters to Atlanta last week: One outlining why she would seek a second term and another to the city that explained why she wasn’t seeking a second term. She said both letters were very similar.

She said not seeing a second term came from a place of strength, not weakness.

“Just because you can do it doesn’t necessarily mean you should do it,” Bottoms said.

More to come.
