Actor Robert Ri’chard is probably best known for his portrayal of teenage characters, such as Bobby Walker in the Nickelodeon sitcom “Uncle Cousin” and Damien Carter in the film “Coach Carter.”

However, in his latest film, Ri’chard continues to show the cinematic world that he is all grown up now, and the kids’ roles are a thing of the past. Ri’chard’s latest endeavor is a starring role in the film “Kinky.”

Directed by Jean-Claude La Marre, the film highlights a BDSM sexual relationship between a seductive financial tycoon and a shy doctor.

Ri’chard’s character, Darrin Wethington, is a hedge fund manager and investor who catches the eye of Dr. Joyce Carmichael.

Played by Danity Kane frontwoman and actress Dawn Richard, Carmichael appears to be a shy person whose religious beliefs get in the way of her personal happiness.

However, after meeting Darrin, the two enter into an S&M relationship.

“I didn’t even recognize myself. He’s like a grown man,” said Ri’chard, as he compared the differences between himself and his character. “I’m super relatable and I’m kind of nerdy. People know that I’m about health, but this man in this movie is about building an empire. And he’s found this one woman that he has his focus on.”

For Ri’chard, “Kinky” is a film that takes him to a place that he’s never been before professionally. While his roles in “Chocolate City,” “Meet the Browns” and “One On One” have allowed him to show off his sex appeal, those roles never required him to demonstrate on-screen seductiveness.

Though the film explores the transformation of Dr. Carmichael from a meek and introverted doctor to a sexually liberated woman, it also gives a peek into the male perspective of S&M.

The film is certain to spark conversation about S&M relationships, particularly from a male perspective.
