The talk all week is the Class 6A semifinal matchup between the Westlake Lions and Lee County Trojans. You can sum this matchup in many ways: talent vs. talent, heavyweights against heavyweights, South Georgia vs. Atlanta (East Point if you want to be specific).
Most importantly, it is tradition vs. the guys looking in. Lee County represents tradition because they won the 2018-19 state title but are looking to get back after last year’s quarterfinal loss to Dacula.
Westlake represents the school looking in as they are seeking the first state title in school history. They have the talent, the swag, the perfect blue, white and black uniforms to match their winning play and season. Most importantly, their season is championship or bust as they play for their late principal Jamar Robinson and his wife Annmari.
Leesburg, Georgia will be the location of this great game Friday with everything on the line. The Lions are coming off a thrilling win at home against Allatoona in which they prevailed 27-24.
All season long, the question has been, “Who can slow down this Lion offense, and can you beat them?” In case you didn’t know about the high potent offense, it is composed of division-one athletes receivers Leo Blackburn, Dacari Collins, and tight end Leo Blackburn.
You may take away one receiver but there is always one who will burn you. Last game it was Blackburn giving the Buccaneers defense problems. In this game, the Trojans will have to figure out a way to limit the Lions offense as that will decide who will come out victorious.
While the Lions may have some, if not the best talent in Class 6-A and the state, the Trojans are no stranger to big-time games while having big-time talent of their own.
The Trojans have receiver Chauncey Magwood who recently just signed to Kentucky and can make big plays for the Trojans offense. Magwood also played quarterback. Caleb McDowell is a Trojans running back who signed with South Carolina and has proven to give defenses havoc on the ground.
Defensively, Lee County are stout in their run defense making teams be one-dimensional through the air. Their defensive line features Philip Tran, Cameron Green and Clay Schmidt.
The physicality and speed of the defensive line and linebackers makes this team dangerous. Linebackers include Jaron Willis (who has multiple offers from two notable SEC schools in Auburn and Florida), Anthony McGrady, Jerrod Woods and Malik Brackins.
Both teams present a big test as this game will be an all-time classic.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
