Trae Young had 11 points and 14 assists, as the Atlanta Hawks cast aside their three-game losing streak with a 98-86 victory against the Miami Heat Tuesday night.
Onyeka Okongwu had 17 points and eight rebounds. New additions Terrance Mann and Caris LaVert both added 15 points off the bench. Georges Niang had 11 points. All totalled, six Hawks finished the night in double figures.
Notably, the Hawks prevented a team from scoring more than 90 points for the first time since 2021. Atlanta held Miami to 32% shooting from the field and 18% from downtown.
“Everybody was ready to play,” Young said during postgame. “And everybody really contributed.”
Dyson Daniels had 10 points, 11 rebounds, and seven steals. The seven steals were one fewer than his career high.
“You know, coming into the season, my goal was to first-team all-defense, and now it has to always be defensive player of the year,” Daniels said.
“I don’t even think Dyson really scored that much,” Young added. “But his presence on the defensive end and things like that. And, I mean, there’s a lot of ways you can win a game. We just did it on defense tonight.”
Andrew Wiggins scored 23 points. However, Tyler Herro was held to eleven points on the night. Moreover, the Miami Heat are 2-6 since trading Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors.
Terry Rozier did not play for the Heat tonight.
The Hawks and Heat will meet again on Wednesday, this time in Miami, for the third of four meetings between the teams this season.
