The third night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) has concluded with Governor Tim Walz formally accepting the party’s Vice-Presidential nomination.

Maura Keller, Democratic nominee for Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District, hosted a Watch Party for his acceptance speech at Revival Wines in Downtown Fayetteville, Georgia. Keller said everyone was invited to her watch party saying “Veterans, teachers, public servants, students, and families, let’s all come together and rally behind the Harris-Walz campaign”.

Keller was joined by the local community, democratic activists, and the Fayette County Democratic Committee.

Additionally, Keller said the purpose of holding the watch party was to “continue moving the movement forward.”

The moment you entered Revival Wines, you could feel the high energy with wine, food, and laughter roaring through the building while everyone waited for Walz to hit the stage.

When Amanda Gorman, poet, and activist, hit the stage, the entire room got quiet listening to her inspirational words and speech. Gorman was inspirational indeed because people’s eyes and ears did not leave her sight until she was off the stage.

Screams and cheers were echoed from TV to the actual room. You could clearly tell the people who showed up to the watch party truly believed in what Harris-Walz want to continue to bring to democracy if elected.

People showed up for the future of democracy and to show support for Harris and Walz. When Oprah Winfrey came out, it was like watching Michelle Obama speak all over again. She was captivating, firm, and spoke her inspirational truth. The watch partyers laughed, clapped, and praised Oprah for her speech.

Some while she was speaking said “We can’t go back to slavery” and “America was not made for me back then”. Oprah was in the audience’s words “Was one of the highlights of the night” and she indeed did not disappoint.

Some watchers decided to leave before Walz came out since he didn’t appear until a little after 11 p.m., but eyes were glued to the TV once he came out. Overall, the atmosphere of the night felt like a good time and a night of gathering for one purpose, which was to show support for democracy and the upcoming election in November.

One thing is for sure, the Harris-Walz ticket has a ton of supporters ready to hit the polls to fight for democracy and freedom in Georgia.

There are less than 80 days until Election Day.
