Some say 2020 is the year of the unexpected. So far, for the Corky Kell Classic and Georgia High School football, it has lived up to the hype and an unexpected thriller game between Brookwood and Dacula. The Broncos escaped past Dacula in a 40-34 overtime win thanks to a late touchdown by junior running back Alexander Diggs.

After both teams went into halftime tied at seven, much of the second half belonged to the Falcons as the running game by Kaleb Edwards and Kyle Efford put the Falcons ahead 14-7 as the fourth quarter began. With under 90 seconds remaining in regulation, the Broncos marched downfield into Falcon territory looking to tie the game.

Broncos quarterback Dylan Longeran found his favorite target in receiver Denylon Morrissette tying the game at 14.

As overtime began, both teams traded scores.

For the Falcons, Efford was big in their success on the ground scoring all three of their touchdowns in overtime. As for the Broncos, the passing game of Longeran proved to be to their success scoring two of their fourth touchdowns in overtime through the air. Diggs scored the other two.

It was not until turnovers proved to play a huge factor late that gave the Broncos a chance to seal the game. On a fumble by the Dacula receiver, the Brookwood recovered and took advantage. Diggs managed to punch it in from two yards out to secure the fourth overtime thriller and classic.

The Brookwood Broncos will travel to Marietta on September 18 for their next game against Walton. Meanwhile, the Dacula Falcons will prepare for Mill Creek on the 18th as well.
