Week nine of the high school football season will see programs playing for postseason positions and, more importantly, region titles. This week, several undefeated teams are looking to remain on that path. Nationally-ranked Buford, Langston Hughes, and Grayson are all 8-0.
Benedictine Military School Cadets (5-2) at Perry High School Panthers (4-4), 7:30 p.m.
The Cadets are 3-0 in region play, and the Panthers are undefeated at home. Something will have to give in Perry on Friday night.
Buford High School Wolves (8-0) vs. Mountain View High School Bears (1-8), 7:30 p.m.
The Wolves, one of the best football programs in the country, scored a season-high 75 points at Central Gwinnett last week. The Bears gave up 61 points to Dacula last week. Friday isn’t the best time for Mountain View, I’m afraid.
Grayson High School Rams (8-0) vs. South Gwinnett Comets (5-3), 7:30 p.m.
The nationally-ranked Rams are 5-0 at home this season.
Langston Hughes High School Panthers (8-0) at Morrow High School Mustangs (1-7), 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers look to remain undefeated as they visit Clayton County on Friday night. The Mustangs, coming off a 41-7 loss to Dutchtown, are in the midst of a tough season that’s about to get tougher.
Westlake High School Lions (4-5) at East Coweta Indians (1-7), 7:30 p.m.
This is a personal pick. I used to cover high school sports in Coweta County for the Newnan Times-Herald, and the Indians program was one of my favorites to cover. Typically, a tough place for opponents, Sharpsburg has seen better football. The Lions are looking to get back to .500 on Friday night.
