Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fans’ anticipation of a young corps on The Flats will be different before their season opener against Northern Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 4.

They will be without their wide receiver Leo Blackburn for the season as he injured his ACL at Saturday’s practice.

The AJC first reported and confirmed the news.

Blackburn posted on his instagram account with the caption, “I’ll be back! Harder than ever! 2022…….💯 #free21.”

Blackburn was issued number 21 by head coach Geoff Collins, a number which former Yellow Jacket and newest member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Calvin Johnson, famously wore while playing at Tech.

The Yellow Jackets lost a promising young receiver in Blackburn who was a highly touted recruit out of Westlake High School in Atlanta. As a four star recruit, he played tight end and was a huge part in the Lions’ advancing to the state semifinals last season. The 6-foot-5, 217-pound Blackburn was the No. 24 tight end in the nation and No. 39 overall player in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite.
