Coming 2 America - Official Trailer

More than 30 years later, the gang is back together again! Much of the original cast of 1988 classic “Coming to America,”  —including, of course, Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem Joffer, along with Arsenio Hall as Semmi, James Earl Jones as King Jaffe Joffer, and Shari Headley as Lisa McDowell—is back in the film’s sequel “Coming 2 America.”

A highly anticipated trailer for the sequel was released just in time for Christmas, touting a March 5 debut for the film on Amazon Prime. The two-minute trailer opens with amazing aerials of the kingdom of Zamunda, from where newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi(Arsenio Hall) will now set out on an all-new adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.

“Coming to America was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time,” said Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, in a statement. “Thanks to Eddie Murphy’s comedic genius along with the brilliant filmmakers, writers, and fabulous cast, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this new adventure. We know audiences around the world will fall in love with this hilarious, joyful movie that will surely become a timeless favorite.”

In “Coming 2 America,” fans can expect plenty of laughs from the characters they fell in love with more than 30 years ago, along with gut-busting performances from comedy heavyweights Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Luenell, and Wesley Snipes. The film also features appearances from Teyana Taylor and Rick Ross.

In the original, Prince Akeem and Semmi travel to Queens, where the young prince has selected to embark on a journey in search of his queen. McDowell, a community activist and heiress to the McDowell fast-food dynasty, catches the young prince’s attention eventually becomes his bride. The movie debuted at number one and eventually grossed a hugely profitable $350 million at the box office.

“Coming 2 America” was directed by Craig Brewer and shot at Atlanta’s Tyler Perry Studios through summer and fall 2019. Originally given a Dec. 18 US release by Amazon in early November, the film will now launch worldwide in over 240 countries and territories.
