The Digital Dash 5K, scheduled for tomorrow (Aug. 25), will support not one, but three local nonprofits aimed at enhancing the lives of children and their families.
OneDigital Health and Benefits, a company that provides human resources and benefits consulting services, will host the 10th anniversary of the Digital Dash 5K at Marietta Square. The run will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Safe Kids Georgia and Bert’s Big Adventure.
Over the event’s nine-year tenure, OneDigital has raised almost $400,000, while spreading awareness for the nonprofit organizations.
“We started with about 250 runners during the first Digital Dash in 2009, and we’ve nearly tripled that number today,” said Adam Bruckman, president and CEO of OneDigital. “It’s one of my favorite events and a great opportunity to give back to our community in a meaningful way.”
Walks and 5K races have become a popular way for nonprofits to raise funds and awareness of their causes. These races also offer a good way for people to stay active because they are a manageable distance, and many of the races welcome runners, joggers and walkers alike.
Here’s a look at upcoming Atlanta 5Ks:
Run in Defense of Animals – Sunday, Sept. 9
Every penny raised from this race goes to fund the animal welfare projects at In Defense of Animals (IDA). By participating, runners support IDA’s efforts to protect the rights, welfare and habitats of animals. This is a dog-friendly event; participants are welcome to bring their dogs on a leash. There we will also be a doctor on site at the event.
The Race presented by The Unity Collective – Saturday, Oct. 13
This inaugural race is a collaboration of running community leaders, vendors and supporters who have united to host a road race that supports Black-owned businesses. The race offers both a 5K and half marathon option and runs through historically Black neighborhoods. The goal of the race is to make a positive, charitable impact in African-American communities through running.
F.A.M.E 5K Run and Walk Scholarship Fundraiser – Saturday, Oct. 27
The Film, Art, Music and Entertainment (FAME) 5K run/walk fundraiser was created to provide an opportunity to help college students who are striving to attain their education within the field of entertainment. The funds raised will support students in need of financial aid to continue their academic endeavors. The FAME 5K was created by a well-renowned industry leader in response to the ever-growing entertainment industry and the lack of development and opportunity for creatives on the business side of arts and entertainment.
Superheroes 4 Orphans 5K walk/run – Saturday, Nov. 3
HOPE worldwide Africa is hosting its 5th annual Atlanta4Africa 5K walk/run to raise funds to provide care and support for orphans in Africa. The theme of the event will be “Superheroes4Orphans” since many of our “superheroes” who are active in the organization were orphans themselves at one time.
