Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, metro Atlanta’s leading local resource for breast cancer screening, diagnostic and support services, today announced its partnership with Walgreens to save lives during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Walgreens customers can get involved by donating during checkout at participating Walgreens locations in Georgia through Oct. 31.

Funds raised through this partnership are vital for both the future of breast cancer research and the support Komen Atlanta is providing to those facing breast cancer today during this historic period of uncertainty and economic distress.

“Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta is thankful for the support of Walgreens and its customers,” said Paula Schneider, the CEO of Susan G. Komen. “We are excited about the potential of this collaboration to accelerate the pace of research discovery and to support services like our breast care helpline, treatment assistance program, and patient navigation. Thanks to this partnership, we will be able to help support people touched by breast cancer today, while we spur the development of more effective treatments.”

According to Komen Atlanta, Metro Atlanta women are dying of breast cancer more often when compared to women in the U.S. as a whole. The organization fights breast cancer in metro Atlanta by providing breast health and breast cancer services for those who cannot afford them, and globally by funding cutting edge research to find cures.

Komen Atlanta has raised $52.5 million since its inception in 1991, with over $39.7 million invested in Metro Atlanta to save lives locally and over $9.6 million invested to fund research to save lives all over the world.
