If you or someone you know is interested in running for a political office within the City of Atlanta this year, the qualifying fees and filing information have been set. The 2021 City of Atlanta Municipal General Election is scheduled to be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021. If necessary, a run-off election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021. The rules are listed below:

Candidates must apply and file to qualify in person. Qualifying information can be filed between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Tuesday, Aug. 17 to Friday, Aug. 20 at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue SW.

Candidates may qualify by following methods:

1.) Filing a notice of candidacy and paying a set qualifying fee to the municipal clerk/election superintendent or designated agent for the desired office as follows:

Mayor

Board of Education Member

Or

2.) Filing a notice of candidacy, a qualifying petition and a pauper’s affidavit affirming under oath the candidate’s poverty or inability to pay the qualifying fee as required by O.C.G.A. Sections 21-2-132(g) and 21-2-132(h) with the municipal clerk/election superintendent or designated agent.

All polls within the City of Atlanta in both Fulton County and DeKalb County will be opened at 7 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m. for the general election and the run-off election, if one is necessary, pursuant to Official Code of Georgia Section 21-2-403.
