The Douglass Astros finished second in region 6-AA with a 58-8 win over the Clarkston Angoras Friday evening at Lakewood Stadium.

For the Astros they were looking to conclude the regular season with a win to finish second in their region while the Angoras wanted their first win to conclude their season.

The Angoras knew what they were facing in Juan Powell and the Astros. Unfortunately, the Angoras found out early as Powell completed the Astros opening drive with a rushing touchdown to go up by seven points early.

Moving the chains against the Astros defense was a huge challenge for the Angoras as they failed to move the chains the first half. This gave Powell and the Astros opportunities to extend their lead and control the game.

Powell’s first half presence was the difference in this game as he connected with Anthony Malone for his only passing touchdown of the night to go up 14.

The Astros defense made their presence early as well getting a safety to extend the lead to 16.

A fumble by the Astros on their ensuing offensive possession gave the Angoras a much needed break as they felt the game getting out of control early. It only got worse for the Angoras as Powell picked off Christie Okitanguwo and took it to the house for a to lead 23-0.

After the first quarter, the game was never in question as the Astros were the better team.

Rushing touchdowns by Jimmie Pierre Jr. and D’Andre Watson gave the Astros a 36-0 lead at halftime.

It may have been a big lead and the Angoras probably were the inferior team but that did not stop them from competing and fighting in this game.

They received the second half kickoff and finally managed to move the chains. Although they picked up first downs, they were unable to generate any points and went three and out.

Watson took Powell’s place in leading the offense for the second half and kept the chains moving.  Montrez Williams capped of the drive with a 29 yard rushing touchdown to go up 44 points.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Angoras were determined to get some points on the board. Okitanguwo found Iverson Woods for an 11 yard touchdown reception cutting the lead to 36.

This seemed to give the Angoras motivation for the rest of the game and next season.

Late rushing touchdowns Jimmie Pierre Jr. and Watson gave the Astros a 58-8 victory.

The Astros will face the Pepperell Dragons next week to begin the playoffs.
