This morning, media magnate Oprah Winfrey has formally endorsed Democrat Stacey Abrams in the race for Georgia governor.

The endorsement alone was not enough for the self-made billionaire: She will canvass for Abrams, knock on doors and host two town halls in metro Atlanta alongside the Democratic candidate.

“Oprah Winfrey has inspired so many of us though the years with her unparalleled ability to form real connections and strengthen the bonds of family and community,” Abrams said. “I am honored to have Oprah join me for uplifting and honest conversations with voters about the clear choice before us in this election and the boundless potential of Georgians.”

The last time Oprah fully endorsed and campaigned for a candidate was September 25, 2006 when she endorsed then-Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. In May 2007, Winfrey endorsed candidate Obama and made her first appearance in his campaign in December of that year.

Abrams and Winfrey will host one town hall at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre in Marietta and a second one at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center in Decatur. Tickets are first-come, first-serve and both events are open to the public. Persons interested in attending can here. However, ticket reservations close today at 5:00 PM.
