Former President Barack Obama will be in Atlanta for the largest conference specifically for green building and environmentally conscious professionals.

“A conversation with President Barack Obama,” will be held from 8:30 a.m -10 a.m on Nov. 20 as part of The Greenbuild Expo, which emanates from the Georgia World Congress Center from Nov. 19 to Nov. 22. Bernice King, Jasmine Crowe, Jeanne Gang, Jaime Margolin, and Dr. Marshall Shepard are the other keynote speakers featured throughout the week.

This conference has one main mission, “raising the standard for everyone by putting green first.” The website also says that sustainability is the foundation of Greenbuild.

The event features an expo hall, summits, and a huge Greenbuild Celebration.

The website says the Greenbuild community hopes to:

  1. Enhance human health and wellbeing
  2. Ensure resiliency
  3. Mitigate climate change
  4. Enhance community and social equity
  5. Restore and protect our ecosystems
  6. Enhance building efficiency and performance
  7. Promote sustainable design

“USGBC is deeply honored that President Obama has accepted our invitation to speak at Greenbuild 2019,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO, USGBC in a statement. “President Obama is a global leader and a longtime friend of the green building community.”

During his time as President, Obama helped negotiate the Paris Climate Agreement, a treaty dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance that went into effect Nov. 4, 2016. Obama is expected to discuss his views in light of President Donald J. Trump signaling a withdrawal from the agreement. Trump lampooned the deal saying, it is “one-sided” and a “bad deal” for the country.

It is unclear if Obama will attend the Democratic primary debate later that evening at Tyler Perry Studios.
