Despite their 4-9 overall conference record, the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers are playing their best baseball of the season.

The Maroon Tigers won their final season series of the year against Paine College over the weekend in Augusta. Taking all three games while getting strong pitching performances from junior Kristopher Skinner (one win and a save) and Daron Bowling in the process.

The Maroon Tigers took game one 11-9, with senior Xavier Floyd going 1-3 with three RBI and fellow senior Christian Grifith going 4-5 on the day.

Skinner picked up the win in relief, striking three of the nine batters he faced in the process. Sophomore Grant Bennett started the game and gave up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out four.

Game two ended in a 6-3 Morehouse victory as eight Maroon Tigers came away with a hit including junior Amyr Smith who was 2-3 with an RBI. Bowling picked up the win after four innings of work (two hits, one earned run, five walks and two strikeouts) followed by Anthony Dodd and Skinner in relief.

Morehouse will host the Albany State University Rams in a three-game series this weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon with a rubber match on Sunday at 1pm. The Rams are 16-14 overall and 7-4 in the SIAC.

On Sunday afternoon a six-run seventh inning gave Morehouse a 6-1 win and their third straight victory. Freshman right-hander Demetrius Burton pitched five innings, giving up just two hits without allowing a run. Skinner, looking more and more like the Maroon Tigers answer to a closer, pitched the final four innings, picking up another save and three strikeouts.

CAU Panthers lose sixth straight over weekend

The Clark Atlanta University Panthers softball team lost their sixth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Albany State University Lady Rams 2-1. This most recent loss comes on the heels of losing a doubleheader to the Lady Rams in Friday, 10-9 and 9-1, respectively.

The Panthers are now 3-9 in SIAC play and have four more conference games remaining on their schedule. Clark Atlanta will be traveling to Franklin Springs (Ga.) to play a non-conference game against Emmanuel College on Wednesday (3 p.m.) before playing a two-game series against in Orangeburg, South Carolina at Claflin University.

Panthers will play at University of West Georgia following sweep of Benedict over weekend

The Clark Atlanta Panthers baseball team, 10-19 overall and 3-9 in SIAC, will be in Carrollton on Wednesday to play a non-conference game against the University of West Georgia Wolves at 5pm.

The Panthers took both games from Benedict College on Sunday, defeating the Tigers in Columbia, South Carolina 13-8 and 11-2.
