The Morehouse College Maroon Tigers are once again SIAC track and field kings of the hill after winning the league’s men’s title in Albany over the weekend. The Benedict College Lady Tigers won the women’s title. Morehouse amassed 187 points during the victory.

After two days of competition at the SIAC track and field championships at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Ga. the Benedict College Tigers were out in front of the Maroon Tigers by nine points, 100-91, and host Albany State University, who was in third place by 17 points.

Despite the deficit, the Maroon Tigers were in always in striking distance of first place after solid showings on Friday and Saturday from distance runner Collins Kiplimo and freshman sprinter/runner Dedrick Vanover. Both athletes were dominant during the Maroon Tigers’ championship cross-country season and displayed the same level of excellence throughout the weekend.

Vanover, a first team all league selection duirng the track and cross-country seasons, won gold in the 200 meters, silver in the 100 meters and anchored the gold medal winning 4×100 meters alongside Jordan Hall, Carlos Outten and Bryson Houston. Kiplimo won the gold in the 3000 meters and the silver in the 10,000 meters.

John Burns and Sam Curry came away with the silver and the bronze in the 110 meter hurdles with Montravious Coleman finished second in the discus.
