TMZ Sports reported Atlanta Falcons defensive end Takk McKinley was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department after friends were concerned with his well being.

Tuesday night, the Atlanta Falcons verified the TMZ Sports report and head coach Dan Quinn released a statement confirming the status of McKinley.

“We were recently made aware of the situation involving Takk in Los Angeles earlier today,” Quinn said. “Any time a situation occurs that is or could be related to mental health issues we take it very seriously. We will do everything we possibly can to support and assist Takk, as our players’ mental and physical well-being are always our top priority.”

In his second season with the Falcons, the former first-round draft pick registered 22 tackles, 15 quarterback hits, seven tackles for a loss and seven sacks.
