The Atlanta Falcons have won four of their last five games and currently own the 5th playoff spot in the NFC. After Monday night’s 24-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Falcons need to win one more game to clinch a playoff spot. If they beat the Saints Sunday and the Panthers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 31, Atlanta will win their 2nd straight NFC South title.
“You know, we don’t,” Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn said when asked if the coaching staff focuses on playoff scenarios. “As we’re going through it, we just try to stay locked in on this one, and the reason being is we know that’s the road to it, but we just don’t want to take any steps, miss a step along the way, and so this division, that’s really where the focus comes for us. That’s why this week it’s all in us against them, this matchup, this battle, and we just kind of stick to the process of getting ready. We have a way to get there that we know by the time we get to game day, the preparation is right, the mindset is right, and we don’t want to look past anything. It’s going to be a hell of a game, but we don’t really look past that or any sigh of relief or any of those things. We just go for it for this week.”
This week’s matchup is against the 10-4 New Orleans Saints. The Saints are coming off of a 31-19 win at home against the New York Jets. If the Falcons win this game, they suddenly vault to first place in the NFC South, holding the tie-breaker over the Saints by virtue of beating them twice.
