Hip-hop icon and legend Diddy visited Morehouse College on Sept. 11 during the campus’s “Hump Wednesday” event to receive an award from Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and promote his Revolt Summit, scheduled Sept. 11-12.
Bottoms bestowed upon the multimillionaire mogul the Phoenix Award, which is the city’s most prestigious honor given to anyone that celebrates significant artistic and philanthropic contributions in the community.
Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill was the last prominent music artist to receive this esteemed award from Atlanta in 2018, in recognition of his political stance on the criminal justice system. Meek Mill also was honored with his own day in the city.
The Bad Boy founder shared a few words of encouragement with the students of Morehouse, Spelman and Clark Atlanta, performed his famous “diddy-bop,” then graced everyone with a performance of his 1997 hit record, “All About the Benjamins” before exiting the stage in legendary fashion.
The Revolt Summit is a three-day event that welcomes artists, executives and cultural leaders to network, learn and explore the impact and influence of hip-hop.
In its inaugural, Atlanta is one of two cities that will host the two-day summit, featuring the likes of Quality Control Music founders Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas, as well as Atlanta natives T.I. and Jeezy, DJ Khaled, radio host Angela Yee and many more.
According to Revolt TV’s website, the summit will include a panel session from “boss veterans in hip-hop that paved the way for the next generation to flourish” as well as a panel about hip-hop and politics that will offer advice about the importance of voting.
“Y’all know we got the Revolt Summit here so if y’all can, come on by if you’re interested in the media and tech space,” Diddy said to the excited students of the Atlanta University Center. “Come out and learn some things, no doubt.”
