Atlanta always has a way of bringing out the stars on big occasions as Infinite Energy Arena was ready for what the Big 3 had to offer. It was no disappointment as the crowds both on and off the floor were outstanding.  The atmosphere was electric and the “schedule gods” smiled upon the metro area as four playoff teams went up against four teams already eliminated from playoff contention.  That did not stop some from playing for pride, especially Killer 3’s own Stephen Jackson.

“I’m gonna play every night like it’s the championship,” according to Jackson, as they knocked off playoff bound 3’s Company to start the night by the score of 51-44.

Game two featured one of the top teams in the Big 3 as the 3-Headed Monsters defeated the Ghost Ballers, 51-37. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf continues to defy all rationale at 49 years old still playing at a high level and dropping 19 points, but it was Reggie Evans who set the tone in both scoring and rebounding, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists.  The 3-Headed Monsters were in contention for the #1 Seed in the upcoming playoffs but had to wait for the final contest of the evening between Power and the Ball Hogs.

In the third game of the night, Trilogy defeated Tri-State 50-40 as the defending champs out of playoff contention played hard against a team who set the trajectory for the rest of their season in the first game.  There was revenge on the mind and it showed as Al Harrington paced Trilogy with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

In the final game of the evening, Power faced the Ball Hogs with the number #1 seed on the line.  With the 3-Headed Monsters already winning, Power had to match that to remain on top, because they already had the head to head advantage.  Power led by Cuttino Mobley and Glen “Big Baby” Davis got out to an early 18-8 lead, but the Ball Hogs cut it to 25-22 at the half.  The Ball Hogs got to 29-27 early in the 2nd half but Power went on a 21-6 run to close out the game.  Mobley finished with 18, Davis with 14, securing the #1 seed as Power defeated the Ball Hogs 50-40.

The playoff seeding and matchups for the Big 3 have now been set going into Dallas next Friday as the #1 seed Power will go up against #4 seed Tri-State. Meanwhile, #2 seed 3-Headed Monsters will face #3 seed 3’s Company.

The matchups will begin at 7pm on Facebook and will switch to FOX at 8pm.

The Big3 championship game will be heldat the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 24th.
