Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta will hold its annual Back to School Kick-Off event this Saturday, Aug. 8 as a drive-thru, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The event, which usually draws several hundred attendees and includes vendors and college representatives, provides children in the program with the opportunity to prepare safely for the school year.

More than 300 backpacks for elementary, middle, and high schoolers will be available for children enrolled in the program, including school supplies, activity kits, and PPEs in the form of face coverings, hand sanitizer, and pocket tissues. Families will be able to pick up the backpacks at the organization’s Midtown location at 1382 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta.

“The Back to School Kick-Off event is one of our most popular events for our families and, while we’re sad it won’t be the big celebration it usually is, we’re excited to be able to provide these essential school supplies to our Littles in a safe way,” said Kwame Johnson, the President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta.

The event is sponsored by Fiserv, as well as Colliers, One Trust, Alight, and McKinsey & Company. In-kind sponsors include Disney, MedShare, Ross Dress for Less, Creative Concepts in Marketing, STE(A)M Truck, The Home Depot, and UPS.
