The United States Marathon Olympic Trials will be taking place at Centennial Olympic Park, in the heart of the city, in summer 2020.

Atlanta was selected to host the trials over finalist city Chattanooga (TN), and from a group that also included Austin (TX) and Orlando (FL).

“We will deliver a race weekend where all qualifiers are treated like champions,” said Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah in a statement to TeamUSA.org. “Atlanta’s continued Olympic legacy will be an investment in the Olympic future. The future is not just those six athletes who represent us in Tokyo, but all of the athletes who qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Marathon.”

The trials will take place on Feb. 29, 2020, with the top three male and female finalist moving on to Tokyo for the Summer Olympic Games.

The 1996 Summer Olympic Games took place in Atlanta and surrounding northern and southern suburbs of the city. The United States finished the games with gold medals in men’s and women’s basketball to go along with the high in the overall medal count.
