Merle Robinson, Decatur: “I think they should get paid because of the financial situations that college students have to deal with. Some are not fortunate enough to have a lot of money and I think that if you are trying to go the next level, it helps a whole lot. I think being part of a union will insure a lot of peoples’ positions and jobs and make sure they will be comfortable with the union backing them up.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
Scutt Strong, Atlanta: “[They should be able to unionize and get paid] because they work almost seven days a week just like the regular NBA. They should be compensated.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
Angela Goss, Conyers: “I don’t think they should, because they are in college, going to school, learning to become professional ball players, so why pay them money for that? The professional ball players already make too much money as it is.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
Bill Lackey, Lithonia: “They should get paid because they deserve it. You're playing basketball; you're bringing in all the money; you should get some of that money, too.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
Nakeil Lee, Decatur: “I am for that, because these athletes put in a lot of work and they make these programs a lot of money; millions on top of millions of dollars. It’s like this, you’ve got athletes that don’t have a lot and their whole goal is to make it to the NBA or the NFL. So, for the universities to be making millions and millions of dollars on these guys, where these guys get kicked out of the game or they get fined, the program gets fined for them getting like a $100 for them to get something to eat. I don’t feel that’s fair.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
Roderick Bacon, Decatur: “They should get paid. You can’t make it without a job… if you don’t make it to the pros, you are going to be stuck. How are you going to buy some toothpaste or some toilet paper for yourself? If they don’t make it, they are going to hustle and do something bad. They need to do the the right thing. That’s my opinion.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
Tonya Johnson, Decatur: “They should [unionize and get paid] if they are going to do everybody like that. They have to do everybody fairly. They have to do all the sports; they can’t just do basketball.” Photo by Vincent Christie.
