Mayor’s Summer Reading Club Celebrates Success with End of Summer Family Picnic

Through a generous grant from PNC’s Grow Up Great program, the ‘Mayor’s Summer Reading Club’ and its partners distributed more than 12,000 free books this summer

To celebrate the success of the ‘Mayor’s Summer Reading Club,’ the City of Atlanta and the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS), thanked its partners, supporters, parents, and children with an End of Summer Family Picnic on Saturday. More than 12,000 books were distributed to eager young readers as part of Mayor Kasim Reed’s summer reading club, which aimed to bolster vocabulary and literacy skills of children eight years old and younger in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The celebration was held at Magnolia Hall in Piedmont Park.
