Mother’s Day for Peace on June 8
The 10th annual Mother’s Day for Peace will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at Cosby Auditorium on Spelman College’s campus (350 Spelman Ln SW, Atlanta, GA 30314). WAND will welcome to the stage some of Atlanta’s most inspirational people, who are coming together for humanity. This year’s event focuses on the critical relationship between creativity and activism. You are invited to join in honoring the work of this year’s keynote speaker, award honorees, emcee and local artists.
Seniors Tour Wheat Street Gardens during 'Celebrating Seniors Garden Party'
Fulton County Seniors from senior centers across Atlanta and Fulton County enjoyed a “Celebrating Seniors Garden Party” as May Older Americans Month activities continued on Thursday, May 22. The “Garden Party” featured lunch, games, healthy cooking demonstrations and tours of Wheat Street Gardens, a beautiful network of flower and vegetable gardens. Open Hand and Truly Living Well hosted the party, which was supported by Fulton County District 6 Commissioner Joan P. Garner, Atlanta City Councilmember Kwanza Hall, State Senator Nan Orrock and local businesses. Open Hand provides congregate and home-delivered meals, along with nutrition education to Fulton County seniors through the Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Aging.

Registration Renewal Period Ends
ATLANTA – Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp reminds officers and registered agents of corporate entities registered in Georgia that the annual registration renewal deadline is 11:59 p.m. Saturday, May 31.
Georgia law requires all corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships to file annual registrations with the Secretary of State and pay the renewal fee. Business entities that fail to renew by the deadline will be charged a $25 late filing penalty fee and risk being administratively dissolved.
Customers are encouraged to renew their existing corporate entities and provide at least one valid email address with their filing. Customers can then receive future renewal notices and important notifications related to their filing in email format.
Customers are also able to file hard copy annual registrations with a check or money order by mail to P.O. Box 23038 Columbus, GA 31902. Envelopes must be postmarked by May 31. Customers can also file in person at the Secretary of State’s Corporations Division, in Atlanta, the Professional Licensing Boards Division, in Macon and the agency’s South Georgia Office, in Tifton. Adventurous Activities for Families Outside on June 14
ATLANTA - Stand-up paddle boarding, archery and tree climbing are just some of the free activities offered during “Get Outdoors Georgia Day” from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on June 14, and is part of the seventh annual “National Get Outdoors Day” created by Get Outdoors USA. Hosted by Sweetwater Creek State Park just west of Atlanta, the celebration encourages Georgians of all ages to sample a variety of outdoor recreation. Visitors can also watch live animal programs and browse environmental booths.
Sweetwater Creek State Park is located at 1750 Mt. Vernon Road in Lithia Springs. A free shuttle will be available from event parking at Lithia Springs High School (2520 East County Line Road). Event details are listed on www.GeorgiaStateParks.org.

National Volleyball League Pro Atlanta Beach Volleyball Tournament
National Volleyball League will hold its second pro beach volleyball tournament of the 2014 season from June 12-14 at Lakepoint Sporting Community (Red Top Mountain Rd SE, Emerson, GA 30120). The three-day event will include professional, amateur and junior competitions. The Atlanta tournament will include the NVL’s new “Saturday Night Lights” format, which features Saturday night finals with a prize purse of $25,000, followed by a beach party featuring music artist, Kelley James, and activities for the whole family.
