Fulton County invites input during public hearings regarding 2014 millage rate

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted to propose a 2014 General Fund millage rate of 11.781 mills and a Bond Fund millage rate of 0.27 mills.  The proposed South Fulton Tax District millage rate is 12.469 mills; this rate remains the same as the 2013 rate and affects for properties in unincorporated Fulton County.

Fulton County’s current General Fund millage rate is 10.211 mills.  The proposed 2014 rate would be the first increase to Fulton County’s General Fund Millage Rate since 1991.

The Board of Commissioners will hold three meetings that will include a public hearing to allow for public input at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at the Fulton County Government Center, Assembly Hall, 141 Pryor Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303.  The public may also participate via videoconferencing from the South Fulton Service Center, 5600 Stonewall Tell Road, College Park 30349, and the North Fulton Service Center, 7741 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, 30350.

Fernbank Museum continues 97 days of play with Carnival Science Day

Fernbank Museum of Natural History (fernbankmuseum.org) announces Carnival Science Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 26.

Big Thinkers Science Exploration will be performing Air Up There at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The show will feature a hovercraft and a cannon that will launch smoke ring cannons into the audience. The Imperial OPA will bring along a stilt walker, a hoop dancer and a strolling musician. Guests will also have the chance to create their own optical illusion.

Fernbank will have an exciting array of games to keep guests entertained, including a carnival ring toss, a game of planko and much more.

 Visitors are encouraged to visit the permanent exhibition Sensing Nature to experience various interactives that help guests learn about the relationship between science and their senses in a new and exciting way.

 Carnival Science Day activities are included with Museum admission and are free for Fernbank members. As part of Fernbank’s 97 Days of Play, the museum has made it a goal to provide families with fun activities from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

Upcoming 97 Days of Play activities include Shark Tooth Tuesdays (every Tuesday in July), Safari Hat Sundays (every Sunday in July), Reptile Day (July 12) and Dinosaur Birthday Bash (August 23).

 Museum tickets are $18 for adults, $17 for students and seniors, $16 for children ages 3-12 and free for children aged 2 and under. Value Pass tickets, which include Museum admission and one IMAX film, are $26 for adults, $24 for students and seniors, $22 for children ages 3-12, free for children aged 2 and under and $8 for members. Fulton County Parks and Recreation joins in the month-long celebration

Fulton County Parks and Recreation and NRPA are challenging everyone to get out and visit their community parks and recreation during national Park and Recreation Month.

This year’s theme, “OUT is IN,” encourages individuals, families, friends and co-workers to do something outside every day that they would normally do inside.
