Fonzworth Bentley & Rashan Ali Host UNCF’S Empower Me Tour

ATLANTA – The UNCF Empower Me Tour, a free, traveling college-and career-readiness road show sponsored United Negro College Fund, will feature entertainer Fonzworth Bentley and radio personality Rashan Ali, as hosts for the Tour’s stop at Clark Atlanta University on Saturday, January 25.
The day’s events are moderated by Tish Norman, Founder and CEO, Transforming Leaders Now, Inc. and this year’s speakers and workshop leaders include motivational speaker Dr. Alex O. Ellis; Michael E. Parker, founder of You Are a CEO; college completion expert Tawan M. Perry; and music executive Amir Windom. Prior Tour guests and panelists include actors Tatyana Ali and Hill Harper, journalist and social activist Jeff Johnson, and Dr. Randal Pinkett, winner of the fourth season of NBC’s “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump.
EMT attendees will engage with college recruiters and learn about scholarship and internship opportunities. This portion includes a presentation from coordinators of the Gates Millennium Scholars Program, which selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice.

Steve Harvey Offers Exclusive Apprenticeship Experiences
ATLANTA – Actor, comedian turned media mogul and philanthropist Steve Harvey is joining the Coca-Cola Pay It Forward Program.
For its third year, the Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program will offer once-in-a-lifetime apprenticeship experiences to African-American youth looking to pave the way for their futures. Under the umbrella of the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, the talk show host and best-selling author will offer two apprenticeship experiences. The experiences will focus on the areas of philanthropy/community and media/entertainment.
This year’s winners will be exposed to exclusive apprenticeship opportunities. They will work with Harvey and his team on his radio shows, with his entertainment company and the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation’s mentoring camps.
Now through March 15, parents, relatives, friends and mentors may nominate an aspiring young person for the Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program by visiting www.coke.com/payitforward. The program is open to teens and young adults between the ages of 16-21 (as of May 1, 2014).
Grady Health Foundation receives donation
ATLANTA – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGA) commemorated and reaffirmed their pledge to Grady Health Foundation of $250,000 this past week in support of Grady Health System’s 2014 initiatives, including a Women’s and Infants’ Center. The Grady Health Foundation works with corporations like BCBSGA throughout the year as the fundraising arm of the metro-region’s premier Level 1 Trauma Center, providing continued health and wellbeing to Atlanta.

Morehouse President takes part in White House event
ATLANTA– Morehouse College President John Silvanus Wilson Jr. traveled to the White House on Thursday, Jan. 16, to participate in an event on college opportunity hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The invitation-only event focused on launching a plan of action for increasing college opportunity for low-income and disadvantaged students.
