Mental health crisis centers to open

VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) - Mental health crisis centers are opening or being expanded in south Georgia to accommodate patients from a state hospital that’s closing. The Valdosta Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/Kha84f) that hundreds of patients with mental and behavioral issues will be displaced in the region with the closure of Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville.

Suburban Atlanta homeowner fatally shoots intruder

EAST POINT, Ga. (AP) - Police in suburban Atlanta say a person suspected of trying to break into a house was fatally shot by the homeowner. East Point police spokesman Cliff Chandler says the would-be burglar was shot after trying to enter the back door of an occupied house Tuesday morning.

Missing Ga. bank director arrested in Brunswick

ATLANTA (AP) - A bank director accused of losing millions of investors’ dollars before vanishing last year was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop in a city in south Georgia. Aubrey Lee Price, 47, was arrested Wednesday during a stop for a vehicle and traffic violation on Interstate 95 in Brunswick by members of the Glynn County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. attorney’s office in Savannah said. Price was set to make his initial appearance before a federal judge in Brunswick on Thursday. Price disappeared in June 2012 after sending a rambling letter to his family and acquaintances that investigators described as a confession.

Ga. girl hospitalized after being kicked by mule

CANTON, Ga. (AP) - A northwest Georgia girl has been hospitalized after being kicked in the head by a stray mule.The girl’s neighbor, Thomas Ross, told WSB-TV the child came to try helping corral mules that wandered onto his land in Canton Tuesday afternoon when she was kicked in the head. Ross said the blow knocked the young girl unconscious.
