ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is scheduled to be sworn in for his second term next week.
Reed is set to take the oath of office Monday and will also deliver his second inaugural address. The mayor is also scheduled to give an annual address to the business community and to members of the Atlanta news media.
Reed easily beat three challengers in November’s nonpartisan election. He said at the time that his top goals for his second term include increasing the city’s reputation as a logistics hub, fixing roads and supporting startup companies.
The former Democratic state lawmaker has worked across party lines to foster a good working relationship with Gov. Nathan Deal and to urge Congress to provide more funding to deepen the Port of Savannah which he says is crucial to Atlanta’s economic future.
