Judge Glenda Hatchett joins in honoring Regions Financial scholars

A celebration of the accomplishments of 150 students from Booker T. Washington and South Atlanta who are participating in the Regions Financial Scholars Program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Morehouse College’s Walter E. Massey Leadership Center (830 Westview Drive, Atlanta, GA 30314).

Judge Glenda Hatchett will serve as the keynote speaker. Regions and EverFi will also provide students with additional tools and information to improve their college readiness and future prospects.

Annual run/walk will raise more than $1 million

Atlanta – Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta announced that its 24th annual Race for the Cure will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at Lenox Square. The 5K run/walk and one-mile walk down Peachtree Street will raise funds for Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, which provides life-saving breast health services to medically underserved women in Metro Atlanta.

This year, an expected 14,000 Atlantans will participate in Race for the Cure, raising approximately $1.4 million to enable thousands of Atlanta women to detect and survive breast cancer. Funds also will support research to help cure breast cancer.

Join the MARTA Police Citizens Police Academy

The MARTA Police Department is accepting applications until Tuesday, March 4 for the 10-week course, running from March 18 thru May 13. Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays at MPD Headquarters, 2400 Piedmont Rd., Atlanta, GA 30324, with one Saturday class.

Classes are free, but enrollment is limited to 30 individuals. Those interested in registering should contact Officer Natalie Johnson at 404-848-3670 or njohnson@itsmarta.com. Interested applicants can download the application from www.itsmarta.com/police/community-outreach.aspx.

All applicants must be at 18-years-old and must submit to a criminal background check.

The program is designed to promote and enhance citizens’ understanding of the daily tasks that confront transit law enforcement officers. In addition, participants will become familiar with the various facets of the department’s role in the criminal justice system.

Second annual Athens NEDA Walk

ATHENS, Ga. — The National Eating Disorders Association is launching its 27th annual National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 23 - March 1, in an annual campaign to bring public attention to the critical needs of people with eating disorders and their families.

The 2ndAnnual Athens NEDA Walk, themed NEDA Walk. Save a Life is open to the public. It will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at the University of Georgia Health Center (located at 55 Carlton Street). Registration begins at 9 a.m.
