Dr. Regina Benjamin

The 18th Surgeon General of the United States (2009-2013) Regina Benjamin, MD, MBA, was announced as the first NOLA.com/Times Picayune Endowed Chair in Public Health Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana.

As Surgeon General, Dr. Benjamin led the U.S. Public Health Service and chaired President Obama’s National Prevention Council.

Navy Seaman Bryan E Harris, from Senoia, GA, is aboard the USS Harry S. Truman, which just recently did a transit through the Suez Canal. Harris is a 2011 graduate of East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, GA, where he played basketball for the ECHS Indians.

Lovette Russell, community activist and philanthropist, is one of many notable honorees at the 2013 Jondelle Johnson Freedom Fund Dinner. Russell is a Spelman College graduate (Class of 1983). She is also married to Michael Russell, CEO of H.J. Russell & Company.
