Atlanta School Board Candidate Forum
The League of Women Voters and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host a community forum, featuring candidates for the Atlanta Board of Education’s At Large Seats.
The following candidates have been invited to participate:
• District 7 – Courtney English and Nisha Simama
• District 8 - Cynthia Briscoe Brown, Reuben McDaniel and Mark Riley
• District 9 - Jason Esteves, Lori James and Ed Johnson
Cathy Richards, president of the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board, will moderate the forum.
The public is invited to the forum, at no charge, to be held from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Adamsville Recreation Center. The recreation center located at 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Atlanta, GA. Free onsite parking is available.
Early voting period begins Oct. 14 and ends Nov.1. Time and dates vary by location. Please contact Fulton County Government for specific information. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Celebration of Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery
“I’ve Known Rivers”, a theatrical and musical production for the 92nd Birthday Celebration of Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College, 830 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta.
Radio/TV personality Steve Harvey will host. Confirmed guests include actress Cassi Davis, saxophonist Tia Fuller, actress/producer Rolonda Watts, actor/director Malcolm Jamal Warner, Rev. Wintley Phipps, and director Kenny Leon.
Honorary Chairs are Richard Anderson, Delta Air Lines CEO and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. The former Atlanta Shirley Franklin is chair.
The event is a fundraiser supporting The Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Justice & Human Rights at Clark Atlanta University.

Fulton County’s Helene S. Mills Senior Multipurpose Facility Celebration
The Helene S. Mills Senior Multipurpose Facility will celebrate 11 years of fellowship and fun for Fulton County Seniors. The Friends of Mills will host a luncheon beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, in the Multipurpose Hall.
The Helene S. Mills Senior Multipurpose Facility is located at 515 John Wesley Dobbs Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30312.
Following the luncheon, participants will enjoy trivia games and cake. The Fulton County facility, named for Atlanta native and community activist Helene S. Mills, opened on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002.
Open from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, the facility offers a low cost breakfast and lunch, classes and social activities, aerobics/arthritis therapy, aquatics and other services that enrich the minds, bodies and spirits of seniors age 55 and over. All Fulton County seniors are eligible to use the facility regardless of where they live.
