This weekend, churches and restaurants all over Atlanta will be more colorful than usual as mothers, grandmothers and daughters strut their stuff in big, beautiful hats. As with Easter, hats are a Mother’s Day tradition in the black community.

That’s why mothers and daughters look forward to attending the annual T.R.I.P. (Travel.Reduild.Inspire.Progress) Derby Hatwalk Brunch, taking place from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. May 11 at Villa Christina at Perimeter Summit, 4000 Summit Blvd.

Ericka Dunlop -- reality TV personality from “The Amazing Race 15” and 2004 Miss America -- and Ch’Kiva Latrell Felder, Ms. Georgia Plus America 2013 -- will both serve as judges for the Hatwalk Competition.

“This ladies affair is a fantastic way for women to show off their spring dresses and fabulous hats, enjoy an exquisite Mother’s Day brunch with live music by Sol Factor, and shop along the Hatwalk Marketplace; all while supporting a great cause dedicated to revitalizing communities in despair here in Atlanta and across the country,” said Corliss Hill, Derby Brunch Hatwalk Creator and Co-Founder/Executive Director of T.R.I.P.

The Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser, which sells out every year, will also include: a welcome cocktail reception, delicious food, a signature goodie bag, games in the garden and a souvenir photo.
