The Maytag® brand and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) announced that Charlie Smith has been named a “2013 Maytag Dependable Leader” in acknowledgment for his dedication to keeping youth on the path to achieving great futures. Charlie Smith gets a $20,000 financial award to help further extend his respective focus with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Greater Atlanta.

Air Force Reserve Airmen Jermarius J. Rowe, a College Park native, and Shoronski A. Stephens, an Atlanta native, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Kohl’s Department Stores awarded four Atlanta-area youths with $1000 scholarships for outstanding community service. Garland Jones, 17, created the “Back-N-Pack” project to provide food for poor and distressed refugee families in Atlanta. Jeffrey Ojwang, 18, collected and distributed toys, books, clothes, shoes and used computers to donate to Precious Pearls in Africa to help kids his age in Kenya.
