ATLANTA – The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) will host its “75 Blue Doors” art exhibit on July 17 (5:30 - 7:30 p.m.) at Youth Art Connection, 63 Auburn Ave.

The event is part of BGCMA’s 75th anniversary celebration.

Artwork will be available for purchase.

ABL to host ‘Men of Influence’

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Business League will host its “7th Annual Men of Influence Reception & Induction Ceremony” on July 16 (6 - 8:30 p.m.) at TWELVE Atlantic Station, 361  17th St.

The event honors black men in metro Atlanta communities who have reached senior level positions within their profession, or are leading entrepreneurs in their industry and have attained the ability to influence large public bodies politically and in government.

NBAF to host film festival

ATLANTA – The National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) will host the Pan African Film Festival July 18 - 20 (Noon – Midnight) at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road.

The festival will show 18 films at $10 per screening.

Alphas seek mentees

DECATUR – The Nu Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is seeking applicants for its “Junior Beaux” program through July 19.

The mentoring program is for male students entering the 11th grade in the fall of 2013.  It offers a year of training and advice on succeeding during their first year of college.

Ski club to host annual BBQ

ATLANTA – The Southern Snow Seekers will host its “Annual Summer

BBQ” on July 21 (2 - 7 p.m.) at Trammel Crow Park, 4980 Cascade Road.

The cookout is in partnership with the Metro Atlanta Cycling Club, South Fulton Running Partners and the Hartsfield Hikers organizations.

Author to discuss history of soul food

ATLANTA – Author Jessica B. Harris will discuss her book, “High on the Hog:  A Culinary Journey from Africa to America”, on July 20 (6 p.m.) at The Cyclorama, 800 Cherokee Ave.

The book traces the history of soul food from its roots in West Africa to plantation kitchens and haute cuisine restaurants in the U.S. 

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children.  A reception will precede the lecture.
