Metro Atlanta jobless rate declines to 7 percent

ATLANTA (AP) — State labor officials say metro Atlanta's unemployment rate decreased to 7 percent in November.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced the rate Thursday morning.
Labor officials say the new jobless figure is the lowest since it was 6.9 percent in October 2008. The rate was 8.1 percent in November a year ago.
Authorities say the jobless rate declined in November primarily because the number of jobs increased and the number of unemployment insurance claims were down.
Among Georgia metro areas, metro Athens had the lowest jobless rate at 5.1 percent, while the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 10 percent.
Statewide, Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November was 7.7 percent, down from 8.1 percent in October.
