Your Voice: "What are you doing at home to ensure your child’s academic success?"
Compiled by Vincent Christie at the Atlanta Public Schools board meeting | 8/16/2013, 6 a.m.
Deandria Nichols, Atlanta
“I, nightly, review her assignments as well as hire an outside source for tutoring and I review her grades on a daily basis.”
Valerie Sims, Atlanta
“We have planning time at home. We have on-call sessions where we go back and review all of their homework that was done for the whole entire week.”
Rhoda Spence, Atlanta
“I ask them if they have homework and, if I can help them with it, I try to. Next, I try to make sure we have the internet available so that they can do research. If there’s something I can’t answer or something I don’t know, they can research the topic. I encourage them to stay prepared. I mean, even if they don’t have homework, study anyway, just so that you can stay ahead of the game.”
