ATLANTA - Coca-Cola invites metro area families to enjoy “Family Field Day” from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17 at The World of Coca-Cola at Pemberton Place, 121 Baker St., NW, Atlanta, GA 30313.

Check-in/on-site registration starts at 7 a.m. and closes at 12:30 p.m.

The event will include activities such as the trike race, 6-legged race, bubble ball push, and more.

Participants will get a free t-shirt and soccer ball, while supplies last.

Stop by the Coca-Cola Happiness Truck to be rewarded for dancing to today’s hottest tunes. There will also be an educational health and wellness expo.

This event is part of Coca‑Cola’s “Get The Ball Rolling” initiative to inspire at least 3 million people to rediscover the joy of being active this summer.

Activities are open to adults and children 8 years and older, accompanied by parent or guardian. Younger visitors can enjoy the Coca-Cola Mini-Can Zone play area. Space is limited, so register today at www.cokefamilyfieldday.com or on-site.

JONESBORO - Congressman David Scott will host his Ninth Annual 13th Congressional District Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at Mundy’s Mill High School, 9652 Fayetteville Road (Hwy. 54), Jonesboro, GA 30238. 

This event will feature free health screenings and information provided by many of the region’s leading healthcare providers and organizations.

Special guest speaker Dr. Pamela Roshell, Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will explain how Georgians can obtain quality, affordable and accessible healthcare under the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Exchange.

Workshop and Tour

ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmember Cleta Winslow and Empire Board of Realists will host a free homebuyer’s workshop on Saturday, August 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 686 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, in order to walk buyers through the purchasing process. 

Buyers will learn more about credit readiness, budgeting, finding a home that matches their budget, out-of-pocket expenses, the contract process, home inspections, the mortgage application process, and what to expect at closing.

There will also be a self-guided housing tour of the Adair Park community on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The neighborhood tour will start at 786 Lowndes Avenue S.W.

Announces the NFWL/NRA Scholarship Contest

ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) along with The National Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle Association are pleased to announce the 16th Annual NFWL/NRA Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship Contest. 

Each year, NFWL and the NRA join forces to provide six female high school juniors or seniors with the chance to win a college scholarship. The deadline for entry is September 15, 2013.

This year, students from the classes of 2013 and 2014 are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.  Interested parties must fill out an application, write a short essay on one of two possible topics, and obtain a sponsorship from a woman legislator from either the local or statewide level to sponsor their application.  The six young women whose essays are selected will receive an award, a $3,000 scholarship, and an all-expense-paid trip to NFWL’s 2013 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. from November 20 to 22.
