STONE MOUNTAIN – Gold medalist Gabrielle “Gabby” Douglas will serve as the featured speaker at an upcoming breakfast honoring DeKalb County’s youth.

Expo promotes Male Success Strategy

ATLANTA – An empowerment expo aimed to foster academic, vocational, economic and personal improvement in males age 18 to 28 will take place 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, 101 Auburn Ave., S.W.

“Overcoming the Odds: Success for Young Black Men” will include self-assessments, an interactive workshop, a film, an open forum, a keynote message, a resource panel, health screenings and more. Also a boxed lunch will be provided.

Atlanta Council in Recess

ATLANTA – The Atlanta City Council is in recess for the next two weeks. The full council will reconvene 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.

Committee meetings resume that week, as well.

Congressman David Scott to Host Ninth Annual Health Fair

JONESBORO – Congressman David Scott will host his Ninth Annual 13th Congressional District Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17. This event will be held at Mundy’s Mill High School 9652 Fayetteville Road (Hwy. 54), Jonesboro, GA 30238.

State Farm will host a career fair 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 13) and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 14) at the Westin Atlanta  Perimeter North, 7 Concourse Parkway. Back-2-School Arrive Alive! Don’t Text and Drive Campaign

Parents Against Distracted Driving puts a call out to local non-profit organizations aiming to serve the youth community.  All are requested to congregate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 31 at the Atlanta Civic Center. 

 This event is held in partnership with Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell. 

P.A.D.D. is a 501c non-profit organization established as a support group for families who have been affected by the loss of a child as a result of a fatal car crash.  This program is borne out of the Love From Afar – The Christopher Allen Foundation, created by Cynthia Williams in 2006, after the death of her son at the hands of a distracted driver.
